Set up memberships

A member area is useful, e.g. if you have sold something and want to offer the product for viewing/downloading in this protected area or if you are a forum member, fan, etc.... You want to offer advantages that surpass that of a "normal" visitor.

WordPress already offers the basic functionality of memberships. However, to differentiate between users (e.g. premium members get to see more pages than basic members), different roles must be created. This requires another plugin, e.g. the free plugin “Members". Of course it also works with similar plugins that allow a user to have several roles at the same time.

The Quentn plugin provides seamless integration with Quentn:

  • You can transfer data from an existing membership system to Quentn.
  • You can create memberships from within Quentn.

Create members in Quentn

Create different roles and assign tags from Quentn

Let's assume that someone registers in a forum and creates a WordPress account for themselves. They are assigned a role, their contact is also created in Quentn - and conveniently, they also get a tag (e.g. "forum member"), so you know where the contact comes from.

Or, another example: You use a membership plugin that assigns roles. Again, you can create contacts with the same roles with a corresponding tag in Quentn.

In WordPress, click on Quentn -> Integration and go to the menu item Roles. You can select from the drop-down list of your Quentn tags by clicking in the field. Additionally, you can determine if the contact should lose the selected tag again if they lose the role.

Now all new contacts that log in (e.g. via your existing membership system) will be created in Quentn with the corresponding tag. You can now email these contacts, e.g. a welcome campaign.

Create memberships with Quentn

Let's assume that a contact has bought a membership. For example, you offer online training and make content such as videos and downloadable documents available to the customer on your protected website.

This requires a little preparation:

  • Activate the free plugin "Members" in your WordPress (also works with similar plugins that allow a user to have several roles at the same time).
  • Under Users -> Roles (or Users -> All Users), you can create new roles and define rights.
  • When you edit your website, you can now determine which role can see the content.

Now go to your Quentn account and create a new campaign.

In this example a customer has bought a membership via Digistore24.

Drag the Digistore24 event element onto your whiteboard and double-click to open it. Now determine the product (in this case the membership) to which you want to react.

The customer then goes to the WordPress element.

Create contacts using the WordPress access element

Drag the element "WordPress access" to the Campaign Builder. If the user should be granted membership status and/or be created as a user in Wordpress, check the box "Create or update new user".

As soon as this option is checked, another option appears which is checked by default: "Send email notification". If the checkmark remains set here, WordPress automatically sends an email with the access data to the contact.

Auto login

If you do not want the contact to receive a WordPress email, uncheck "Send email notification" in the WordPress access element.

Then connect a sequence to an email.

You can design this email as you wish. To allow the contact to log into your WordPress page, you now have 2 options:

  • Send link in plain text
  • Link text

If the user is new, they must assign a password as a one-off. If it is an existing user, they will be logged in automatically.

Note 1: The link can only be used once by the recipient!

Note 2: The link is valid one week from the send date.

Send link as plain text

People are used to receiving login links in plain text and clicking on them. So if you want to send the link, please find the placeholder for the clickable login link in the email editor and insert it. This will automatically generate a separate login link for each recipient.

Link text

If you want to link to a text in your email, please find the placeholder of the raw login URL and copy it. Then mark the text to be linked and click on the chain symbol. Now enter the link in the popup. ATTENTION: For "Protocol", please click on "Other".

To ensure that the contact doesn't cancel here, we have added an email confirmation in our example (we would like to send the customer more emails). Afterwards, the buyer will receive a welcome email and an email with the first steps.
